OSB

OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is an engineered panel product alternative to plywood. It is manufactured by pressing together three separate layers - each consisting of wood strands orientated in a differing direction for extra strength – under high temperature & pressure. The resulting product is a highly durable, rigid and reliable board that is suitable for a wide variety of applications similar to plywood products.

OSB has properties very similar to plywood but has a number of clear benefits. Firstly OSB suffers from no 'natural defects’ such as weak areas, knots and core voids as it is made from wood strands. Secondly it can be manufactured from environmentally friendly & fast growing wood species, it can even be recycled at the end of its useful life. It can also be drilled, sanded, sawn, stained, planed, painted and routed.

There are two main types of OSB products. OSB/2 should only be used in dry conditions whilst OSB/3 is manufactured for use in humid conditions.

OSB is sometimes referred to by its trade names Sterling Board or Waferboard.

A complete range of OSB, including FSC certified products, is available for immediate delivery ex stock.
